After researching a new and improved weapon, I rush to have it incorporated in all my ships currently under construction. So, I select shipyard, click on an existing design and hit the UPGRADE button.
Then an EMPTY ship shows up! No existing components are shown! I have to refit it with each and every EXISTING item, and do so for EVERY military ship - which is BORING.
How about - the EXISTING ship shows up outfitted the way I last saved it. Every engine, weapon, defense and module appears in place. Then I click an "Upgrade" Button and Disruptor II becomes Disruptor III, etc. I only then have to look at the Available Space to see then if I need to fine tune the design by adding or deleting a component to optimize space usage. Upgrading becomes quick and easy and I can get back to the game quickly.
This would be far more "friendly".
And, while I am pet peeving, let me make a second suggestion. After taking my next turn and I select the icon to launch all newly constructed ships, how about my view shift TO THOSE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED SHIPS first? These are the ships I want to direct to their destinations. Instead, the view toggles from idle ship to idle ship to idle fleet, to this and to that, and FINALLY I get to those new ships. Put them first. Please, please, please. Most times those idle ships and fleets are idle for a purpose and I don't need to view them.
BTW, you did an excellent job with the way you update ship construction on all the worlds. In MOO2 (Master of Orion 2) it drove me crazy to toggle a colony, tell it to build the NEW ship, then toggle to the next and have to do the same. What a waste of time! I love the option you included in the Governor's panel that allows me to direct ALL worlds, if you WERE building Destroyer 1, you are NOW to build Destroyer 2. Lovely, lovely, lovely.
Keep up the good work. The graphics are astounding.
