If I could get a reply to this from any Game Developers I would be really grateful. Failing that, maybe the collective experiences of those willing to post will help.
I’m in my final year of a Software Engineering degree, I’m conducting some research into computer games development - specifically the application of Genetic Algorithms to Unit Designers.
My query is regarding the unit designer in GalCiv2 - how does the AI decided what weapons, shields, engines and units to place on a ship when designing its own?
Does it have a simplistic rule based approach that determines the best possible weapons by weights and rules?
Or a basic Neural Network to learn what works and what does not as the game progresses?
If this is the wrong place to post such a queestion, would someone please provide me with a more appropriate means of posing my query?
