We have a frustrated new user in the community. Instead of trying to help him out in a constuctive manner, and welcome him to the board, you start insulting him right off the bat. It gives people a bad impression, and I think we can do a little better around here.

FrankinNoble, thanks for your defence. But I think I was inviting some trouble. My post was a pure rant, nothing more, and I admit I was angry and wanted to vent. I hate when people to do it in communities I frequent, so I have myself to blame. But having said that, Marcathonas, blaming it on a "crap connection" and saying it's my "own computer" is conjecture and you have no basis for saying that. Indeed, as I'd already downloaded the Stardock client at 400k/s I would say my computer is fine.

But anyway, I do apologise for the blatant rant, but I was letting off steam. I was very unsure whether to buy GC2 as I have no spare cash right now. But I decided to go for it in the end so that I could play it on Saturday (gotta go out and work on Sunday). So after making the decision to pay, and not being able to download it quickly, I was just very angry. I could have gone to the shop and got a game, or if purchasing came after downloading I could have decided to do it another day. But this way I'd paid and got nothing. Still, once I do finally have it I look forward to playing it.

I still haven't gotten it though. I came home to find it ran out of space on drive C. I installed the client to drive E, and I told it to install the program to drive E, but still this stupid Stardock program wanted to put something elsewhere on drive C.

What happened to just having a page, with links to one exe on mirrors that I can just download in one go. I don't like all this client malarkey.

But I am downloading at 350k/s now. I read in a post later that they have more mirrors for movies etc. so they're faster than the main program. So it would seem my computer is working fine. And Stardock just need to get some more bandwidth for those us with little time and/or patience.

Meh. I haven't played GC1 in a while, but I'm kind of at a loss to see what's different in this new one. Apart from better graphics. And with the old one I got into straight away, and on this new one I had two races kill me straight away as I didn't give them money. Then on a second go, one killed me as they didn't like the look of me and the other one wanted my worlds. I don't remember the races being so trigger-happy on the old one.

But hell, with all the glowing positive reviews I think it's me, and I'll need to read up on the forums about what I'm doing wrong and get into it.

Well I played the game, and was quite stunned how bad it was. It was just like GC1 but with slightly prettier graphics. I played the mission, and started to build some ships, only to find the AI has defeated the othe AI player, so I got to do nothing. What was the point? I'm stunned at how this could be a sequel.

So I've got a refund. I'll stick with GC1.

But... I would like to say that Stardock offered a 75% refund. Credit to them, that's good. Okay I lose out a bit, but it's nice that they give customers that opportunity and I don't feel I've wasted all my money. So I have left with a positive opinion of them, and may explore other games on their system.

He played the campaign, apparently, where if you just don't build ships and share techs like crazy, the other allied civs will destroy everything for you. Thats what looked like happened.

I can't really disagree... if I based everything on my experience with the horrible campiagn, I'd never have bothered playing the rest of the game.

I agree. I did the same, jumping straight into the campaign. In alot of other games the campaign is far better than a individual scenario or sandbox but GC2 is exactly the reverse. The campaign was a let down, shame because the story behind it is good. I think stardock may have been better not having a campaign at all in GC2, perhaps bringing one out later as part of an expansion. We would have had more sandbox features this way as well. The vast majority of comment (80%+) I have seen by players on this forum is negative and critical towards the GC2 campaign. Never read anyone defending or praising the campaign other then the storyline.

Oh well...live and learn...

Niether did i , ive owned the game almost as soon as it came out.

HAve never played the camp once. I had to much fun playin my own way...
