New Expansion--limiting colonizable planets

Apparently one of the new features is that races will only be able
to colonize more specialized planets. This may further cut back
on the colony rush (maybe not). And this may help the ai a lot.
I know lots of experts may despise the colony rush. But I like the choice.

I do like lots of colonizable planets and set up my game that way.

I hope the new expansion pack makes this "feature" an option rather
than a mandatory part of the game.

This feature is one I like to see implemented as a core aspect makes it more of a STRATEGY game so as to challenge you with things to make it less easy to win by just grabbing planets that cannot support your race... they should have it so that the atomspheres of some planets are made of another abundant elements other than Carbon and Oxygen which life here on Earth exists under... say if you had a planet with a Nitrogen atmosphere with a Iron abundance other than carbon you would need some very specific techs to adjust to that climate... You can't just send people to Jupiter and just start a colony...

I think....
I think there should be minor races that can already adapt or change any climate to colonizable for any race and that if you were to hold them at gunpoint or bargain with them they would do it for you.
Like planetary bonuses and such, a special tile with the capability of changing X type of climate in to Y type of climate, or Z in to A or B.
Ulltimate for humans would undoubitly be Eden...or E...

You can colonise any planet you like, but you will need the tech for it. This makes the game more strategic, and im my opinion will genuinely make it more fun. Of course, not everyone will think that, but it is a bit absurd to think that humans can colonise any planet a 7 foot tall yellow warrior can.

I'm just annoyed that the AI will probably have a magical pre-knowledge of all its colonizable worlds while we'll have to explore. I find it annoying how that works with resources, I think that they should have to look for them somehow, at least on Tough difficulty or lower (where the AI isn't supposed to be "cheating").

Plus, my resource-finding strategy (follow an AI constructor with my own faster constructor and just steal what its going after) wouldn't work in this case.

Like we do (unless we have the tech that lets us see the planets & stars). So they should explore unaware of that there might be a star system right next to their own territory

Like we do (unless we have the tech that lets us see the planets & stars). So they should explore unaware of that there might be a star system right next to their own territory


I find it annoying how that works with resources, I think that they should have to look for them somehow, at least on Tough difficulty or lower (where the AI isn't supposed to be "cheating").


hello it is not resources they have Stellar Cartography which shows all available planets to them. If you two wish to implement this it is as easy as changing a little bit of code around. though I don't know how myself to do this.

1) All races except the terrans start with Stellar Cartography, which allows you to see the location of planets on the mini-map. You DO NOT know what the class of those planets may be, just that there are ones there. It applies to the AI just as much, as they must scout them before colonizing (on levels Bright and below, the AI *will not* send colony ships out blind).

2) You always know the locations of any stars on the map from the start via the minimap, cartograph tech or no. The AI also has a "minimap", and to strip it of the same tools you have would be unbalancing in the extreme.

It doesn't seam like the AI knwo where the good planets are, so that works as planed. But it does seam like they know where all the resources are from time to time.

They have a tendecy to get alot of them, and I've spotted constructs that are going in a straigth line towards a resources on the other side of my teritory.

If not they are realy good at exploring. I normaly build 4 - 5 explorer ships after the first colony rush to look for resources, but by that time the AI are already sending constructers.
