No planetary bombardment?

I just read on one of Draginol's post that he doesn'T want to input planetary bombardement. Actually, I have seen a reference to his post, can someone redirect me to it? I wanna know why I cannot simply raze the Drengin Homeworld to oblivion with my fleet of 20 Huge Ship...

There will be no bombardment. Ever. Draginol owns this company, so basically if he says "no" it means no. Since I have had the devs correct me (Twice) whenever I start predicting them, it's basically terror stars that are coming back. They are starbases with a movement of 1, and a gun capable of blowing up a star, and destroying the planets around it.

Actually, i remember a dev saying the Terror Stars would onlly blow up planets, to simplify things. But you could hav PB as a tactic that would be based on wether or not you transport had an attack vallue (i had something called the 'Dirigible Battleship' that i used as a combat transport). for example: You have 2000 troops and your transport has a total attack value of 12, and when the odds are roling the max odds for your side would increase by by half the value and your opponents' odds' max roll would decrease by the sqaure root, or 3.

Not liking PB is one thing... but including Death Stars without planetary bombardment? That seems a little obtuse.

Not quite, remember the main issue: It depends on hoiw the AI can use it. The idea above i suggest is flawed by the facxt that the AI may never bother to arm its transports, but Terror Stars have already been implemented in the last game.

Ah true. I was looking at it from a 'no bombs, but super death laser' perspective. Popping planets would be much easier to use than determining how much/what sort of ships to use to bombard.

He may OWN the company but the only reason that company is doing well is because of people like Cikomyr BUYING it.

Aside from the fact that Froginol doesn't want it in there, I can really only see planetary bombardment making it into the game if they implemented some method of raising the PQ of a planet (beyond the limitations of the orange/red/yellow squares). Otherwise, use of these tactics would slowly reduce the habitable sections of the universe...

Also, raising the PQ of a planet in order to repair damage from PQ lowering invasion tactics is a pet idea of mine .

Why can't we have bombardment like Ascendancy. Bomb and a couple tiles are destroyed? Ascendancy had he same planetary tile system.

s1, we have that. Orbital bombardment destroys tiles if you win. Other than that, it won't happen.

Well, I didn't wanted to start a controversy about it. Can you led me to the forum post where Froginol made his point? He usually explains in detail why he imput or don't some elements in his game.

but I can kinda see why he doesn't want PB. The idea that you don't need transport to win the game is wrong. There would be no point to blockade a planet, if you can simply raze it.

Even a small planet would take thousands upon thousands of ships to bomb to hit everywhere. And if the people went underground, they would still survive. Anythign short of destroying the entire planet wouldn't kill everyone and everythign anyway. But if these peopel want to keep bugging about it, fine put it in, but to avoid the cheese make it so you need 200 Huge hulled ships that only have bomber bays, no space weapons. Taht way AI doesnt have to bother with that crap, and anyone actually bombing planets will be a moron.

No we don't, what we have is Asteroid Bombardment that you can only use before you invade. I want to be able to use my normal ships to attack shoot at planets when you are next to them (Ala Ascendancy) so you can disable planets production without invading them. Its part of strategy.

Off course, you could do something like: "Every attack point reduce a planet's population by 0,1% every bombardement turn".

So even a fleet with 150 attack points would reduce a population by 15% every bombarding turn. They would be open for attack, and could NEVER completly destroy a colony. Off course, there is a % of chance of destroying tiles (permanently), a.k.a. lowering planet class, or a lowering of relations with good-aligned population (and even neutral), a lowering of morale in your planets.
