Will my machine be able to run this game?

Okay, I would really like to purchase this game, but there's been a lot of posts of people having trouble with older cpu's. So, in a truly selfless attempt to spare everybody from me whining about my crappy laptop failing to run GC2, I figured I would ask first what my odds are. I've got a hp pavilion ze4400 that's over 2 years with the basic stats:

mobile AMD athlon XP 2400+, 1.79 GHz
448 MB RAM... all close to recommended so feel pretty good about that.

Video is a IGP 340M with 64.0 MB of memory.... this is what worries me. Slightly above the bare minimum requirements but well below the recommended. Will it still work okay, is there a cheap way to upgrade, or should I spare myself the headache?

also Direct 9.0c compatible, runs in 1024x768 32 bit color so I suppose that is alright.

If anybody has any experience running GC2 on a similar setup that would be greatly appreciated.

There seem to be people running the game on worse integrated video cards. . . I don't know how well, though. You could try the demo. . .

That video is a bit of a problem.
I have a laptop that I originally got the game for.... but it does not run it well, so playing it on my desktop.

As Ostsol stated, test your system with the demo...
Only way to know.
Also, make sure that your video drivers and sound drivers are up to date.
It seems that is where most of the people are having problems.

Runs fine on my old Dell Inspiron 4100, though not quickly.

Pentium III 1GHz
512MB RAM
32MB GeForce 2Go video.

Strangely enough it runs faster at the native 1400x1050 than interpolated 1024x768.
Have to turn off all fancy schmancy graphics bling though.

Upgrading your systems RAM and video card is a cheap and easy way to give your system a big boost. Adding another 512 MB of RAM and a reasonably priced GFX card would make a huge difference for very little money.

It amazes me that people are still trying to play games on systems like this (from the whining on this forum systems *much* worse then this even)

You'll be fine bud. I run it on a Centrino 1.4 laptop with only 64MB of video and 512. Gun runs well, no noticeable problems, loads, etc.

Many thanks to everyone for the advice. "Run the demo...." of course, why didn't I think of that? Now I'm worried that maybe it's my brain that needs an upgrade to compete with the AI

That's not always possible on a laptop. What video card do you recomend for his laptop?
