I understand that the NPC races surrendering is a random option, and that in fact there's a building you can put down that makes the chance of them surrendering to you twice as large.
However, the random thing is really ridiculous in a lot of scenarios. One such scenario I played today.
I started a 9 race galaxy, four of whom got wiped out quickly. I was in the bottom right corner of the galaxy with the Torians, and the Yor collective were just to my left. The Altarians and the Drengin were in the bottom left and bottom middle, respectively, and above me and the Yor were the humans.
I attacked the Torians to take control of that corner of the galaxy, and promptly enough, once they only had two planets left, they surrendered to the humans. I've NEVER seen a single enemy surrender to me yet. And ofcourse, because the humans were far more powerful than me, I couldn't just take the planets, because they would have wiped me out.
This seems strange, somehow. I can understand how they'd surrender to the humans if they were neighbors, but there was a vast stretch of galaxy between the two races. They really shouldn't be able to surrender to anyone but me. How do the humans manage to get their ships etc there?
But the weirder thing is still to come. Since the game started, the Yor and I have been friendly with each other. Trade, diplomacy, everything went well.
They were fighting a war against the Altarians and the drengin, and were getting hammered pretty badly. Since I was building up my defenses against the humans, who now had me sandwiched, I needed the Yor to keep the Altarians and Drengin off for awhile.
To that end, I gave them money every single turn. I made about 600bc per turn, and I donated 400bc to the Yor. EVERY SINGLE TURN.
Furthermore, I gave them the occasional frigate that I'd build for them, and I was researching armor and weapons to counter the Altarians and the Drengin, and gave that research to the Yor for free.
In short, I was their savior.
The Yor didn't like ANYONE else. They were at war with the Altarians and Drengin, had Cold relations with the Humans, cold relations with the whomever they were all the way up north. They had close relations with me.
So when the time comes for them to realise that their war is futile, who do you think they give their three planets to? After me giving them a total of about thirty TRILLION credits, ten or so ships, dozens of things of research for free?
TO THE ONES THEY'D BEEN AT WAR WITH SINCE THE START OF THE GAME!!!
This is ridiculous. I don't know how much effort it is, but if there is only ONE friendly race when an NPC surrenders, they should surrender to that friendly race. NOT to the ones they're at war with?
Is it possible to change that?
