Some races are sharing the same hull styles. What is your problem with that?

Hmmmmm last time I checked britain didn't have a US carrier in its port nor does Russia or South Africa. Point is each race has its own industry and therefore its own military products. The idea that 2 races have the same share base hulls is implying they share the same military suppier. This isn't realistic especially when a new previous unknown race pops on to the scene with no prior contact with anyone.

Sorry just don't like see someone else with similar hull structures, hopefully the bolts ons and colours should help sort that out, I wonder just how much the AI uses structure items on the ships to change there appearance.

it's far different too from different national ships. we are speaking about alien race it seems very unfair that they share the same hulls. anyway it's a minor problem that will be surely solved soon.

Your absolutely 100% correct... to a point.

Russia does have its own aircraft carriers (which looks very similar to a cross between the French/British design with the size of a US Carrier) and one that a few years was capable of not only launching cruise missiles but capable of launching jets that could wax F-14 Tomcats pretty much on a 1 to 1 on the kill ratio (even if naval aviators would never admit this). Take it farther though... submarines.

Submarines make up the majority of any nations one naval weapon. The US for example while going for the 600+ ship navy maxed out around 350 warships... of them roughly 128 were submarines or approximately 33% (while only using 2% of the available manpower... quite a tradeoff actually) All countries with a navy that is of any consequence have submarines all submarines are tear-drop shaped, generally have two sets of diving planes (called bow/fairwater and stern planes), one screw (hence the phrase "1 crew, 1 screw, 1 shaft") and all of them submarines including Scotlands Submarines... ooopse I mean Great Britains all resemble each others. For that matter so do the Egyptians, Indians, Argentinians, Chinese, etc... etc... etc...

Storyline wise there were only a few races that actually had the ability to use the stargates when GC evolved... lending to the development of very little difference in actual design. (Mimicry is the highest form of flattery) why wouldn't the other races who did not have a real concept of space flight not copy designs at least externally that already worked. Such as the one the humans had when the hyperdrive was give to the other races. Given the other 4 different hulls already in production that would account for differences I would think at least in the very beginnning of the race for space.

PS: The Torians would and probably do mimic the Drengin. The humans probably mimic the Arcaen quite a bit... the Altarian who knows but I am betting they look at lot like the Drath Legions... so on so on. However folks, the

would be really cool if only the add-on or patch was a player designed base of ships (colony, constructor, scout, suveryer, defender) that had been uploaded to GC2 and Stardock with the appropriate release from the player to use (with appropriate credit of course given somewhere on the site to the designer) for that race.

Well, we are only talking about the basic hull, which all Navy's have. When the extras are added there is theoretically a lot of room for diversity.

As for realism, In Larry Niven's known universe, nearly all races use the Pierson Puppeteer Hull. After all, the humans gave the galaxy star drive, so why not basic design.

I see your points, it make sense from a story point of view but from a basic give random races the same designs, its just makes it silly.

I think I'll mod the game to do the following shares;

Drengins - Torian (Former slaves)
Yor - Iconians (Former creators)
or Possibly
Iconians - Humans (This is because humans discovered the Iconians and gave them hyperdrive.
Altarians - Darth (Same home planet)
Korx - Thalan (Since any non-native alien race would need supplies from an established race and we all know what the Korx are good for)
Terrans - Arceans (First contract)

All in all this makes more sense to me. Though I feel the Thalan should have their own more organic appearing ships since they are insectoids.

Are you colorblind? Otherwise I would say that you are overreacting.

Once again, there is a ship design feature in the game. YOUR ships should always look different than the enemy, and the enemy ships do appear differently depending on what tech line and level they are at. They may not look COOL, but it is a computer, so don't expect too much.

Sounds like you are just throwing something out there to beef on.

Looking at Draginol's gameplay example, where he used Drengin hulls as a Human, the ships he designed looked absolutely nothing like standard Drengin fare. Like somebody said before, the differences in modules have to account for something.

Of course, if they don't, it'd be more than simple to set those aesthetic differences in an update or a user-mod. Nothing to get your knickers in a bunch.

Why would two species that loathe their counterparts with such vigor copy their ship designs? Even assuming the innards were relatively similar, there's no way proud races would give off the appearance of their most hated enemies. The only race likely to do so is the Korx, since they're naturally inclined to seek the simplest, lowest common denominator for maximum profit. Basically, whoever's hulls are the cheapest, they'd be game for them.

I cant believe the creators of the game have made the game so detailed and have missed out somthing that can in my eyes affect the games popularity.

I'm not getting it. I can only assume you haven't played the beta and have not seen the ship design function at work.

Thre are five distinct hull designs that are similar only in that each has a front and a back. There are an infinite number of color options and thousands of attachments. Any 2-3 of those attachments can change the appearance of a ship dramatically. A zoom in also reveals the race icon.

If you are zoomed out to strategic map distance all of the shapes are identical but the colors still allow you to identify the majors. I am not sure about the minors they may share colors zoomed out if there are a lot of minors in your game.

Incidentally I have had games with over 10 minor civs. There couldn't practically be a different hull design for all of them
